We’re excited to announce that Asbury Methodist Village has partnered with Future Link and Outstanding Possibilities Revealed for student internship programs that are introducing a new generation to the meaningful careers that are possible in senior living.
Future Link mentors and provides paid internships for first-generation-to-college students and low-income youth. Outstanding Possibilities Revealed works with individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities.
“We are thrilled to have these young people providing important services at our community,” says Asbury Methodist Village Executive Director Michele Potter. “Their commitment and excitement are inspiring to all of us.”
“It’s a benefit for us to have these students and their skills,” says Oneka Mends-Cole, Volunteer & Partnership Coordinator at the Gaithersburg, MD-based senior living community. “It also benefits residents by bridging the generations and forging a relationship that can last forever.”
These accomplished students, who excel academically as well as in their commitment to community service, are placed in departments that most closely match their career interests. One student with plans for medical school is working in the clinical education department interacting with residents and learning about infection control and other issues facing the medical community. Another who is pursuing a career in physical therapy assists residents with their exercise programs in the Wellness Center.
As a not-for-profit organization with a faith-based heritage, Asbury Methodist Village is committed to being a beneficial partner to the greater Gaithersburg community. Working with community organizations such as Future Link and Outstanding Possibilities enables us to train a new generation of aging services professionals, and is one of many internship opportunities our community provides to a wide range of professionals and students.
Asbury Methodist Village is also home to the Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative, a youth advocacy and mentoring program committed to bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds and creating a more equitable future for all.
