Asbury Foundation Launches Historic, $60M Campaign

Everyday Exceptional Campaign Celebrates Centennial of Asbury Communities

Asbury Foundation has launched one of the largest philanthropic campaigns in senior living history. Called Everyday Exceptional, this $60 million campaign celebrated its first Kick-Off Event on March 6 at Asbury Methodist Village, located in Gaithersburg, Md.

“In 2026, Asbury will turn 100 years old, celebrating a proud legacy that began at Asbury Methodist Village when local Church leaders answered John Wesley’s call to ‘do all the good you can for all the people you can,’ ” says J.D. Shuman, President & CEO of Asbury Foundation. “From cutting-edge brain health for residents to youth mentoring and advocacy to life-changing scholarships for associates – the power of philanthropy to transform our campuses and the larger community is evident all around.”

Asbury Foundation secures philanthropic support to enhance quality of life for the approximately 4,300 older adults and 2,800 associates living and working at Asbury Communities, Inc., a national not-for-profit leader senior living and diversified aging services.

“Our communities would not be recognizable to the first residents who, in 1926, walked through the doors of what is now Asbury Methodist Village,” says Doug Leidig, President and CEO of Asbury Communities. “Climbing walls and exergaming; wood-burning pizza ovens; dog parks and electric car chargers – they would be amazed. Philanthropy has been critical to that transformation.”

Everyday Exceptional seeks to shape the next century of Asbury living through benevolent care, capital projects, innovation, associate education and scholarships, and campus programs. The campaign’s quiet phase began in September 2020, and to date, 63 percent of the campaign total has been raised.

“Everyday Exceptional speaks to the exceptional acts of caring and new opportunities being fueled by donors’ passions across Asbury,” Shuman continues. “We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our donor family.” Learn more about the campaign here.
