The History of Asbury Solomons
The Only Nationally Accredited Waterfront Community in Southern Maryland
In 1994, Asbury Communities selected a 42-acre tract of land on the banks of the Patuxent River in Calvert County to make the dream of creating Southern Maryland’s first continuing care retirement community a reality.
On September 3, 1996, the first residents moved into the cottages, and apartment move-ins began two weeks later.
With its location just minutes away from Solomons Island, and its proximity to Annapolis, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., the community was quickly settled, and subsequent expansions quickly made this a destination for seniors seeking to retire by the water. Our collaborative partnerships with community businesses and institutions strengthened Asbury Solomons’ local reputation as a Mission-driven organization dedicated to providing excellent services for seniors.
As the first accredited continuing care retirement community in Southern Maryland – and the only accredited waterfront community – Asbury Solomons can provide you with a lifetime of living well. Our holistic approach to well-being also includes the ability to apply for benevolent care for qualified residents who, through no fault of their own, may outlive their financial resources.
