Leading Senior Living for a Century

Asbury Methodist Village is among the nation’s 15 largest continuing care retirement communities (CCRC), and has served older adults in Gaithersburg, MD., since 1926. As part of Asbury Communities, Asbury Methodist Village is also a member of one of the largest not-for-profit CCRC organizations in the United States – an organization committed to redefining aging services for approximately 4,300 seniors in four states.

We welcome people of all backgrounds, cultures and abilities and honor our Methodist roots through a campus spirit where doing all the good we can is our daily practice. To that end, in 2018 we became the state’s first CCRC to achieve certification from SAGECare, an LGBTQ+ accrediting body.

Step onto our campus and experience extraordinary. Sweeping meadows, woods, and wildlife. Classic brick buildings standing amid flowering cherry trees. Experience a community filled with the energy and warmth that comes from people living together with purpose and fellowship.

Founded in 1926 and the largest continuing care retirement community in Montgomery County, MD, Asbury Methodist Village offers unparalleled programs and opportunities. Our 134-acre campus is a green oasis within walking distance of shops, health services and public transportation. And, we’re just 20 miles from Washington, D.C.

Community Leadership

Michele Potter, Executive Director

Michele oversees the Asbury Methodist Village community of 800 associates serving nearly 1,400 residential, assisted living and skilled nursing residents. Before serving at Asbury, Michele retired from the City of Gaithersburg as the Legislative Affairs Manager and the Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. Prior to that, Michele was an Executive Director for a YMCA. Michele is a former board member of the Housing Opportunities Commission in Gaithersburg, and currently serves on the Gaithersburg Germantown Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Michele holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and master’s degree in Public Administration/Management. “My primary goal is to assure that we provide the very best quality of life for residents and associates of this community, honoring Asbury’s Mission to do all the good we can for those we serve.  During my 20-plus years serving the City of Gaithersburg I developed close ties with Asbury Methodist Village and the dynamic people who live here, serving on its Community Advisory Committee. I have always admired the culture and respected that Asbury is an innovator and leader in senior living.  I am eager to help lead its nearly 100-year legacy forward and strive for greatness every day.”

Honoring Resident Voices

As a not-for-profit, Asbury Methodist Village is owned by Asbury Atlantic, Inc., which is the provider and legal entity responsible for providing services to the residents of this community.

Day-to-day operations of Asbury Methodist Village are managed by the Executive Director and leadership team. They are supported by Asbury Communities, Inc., which is the 501(c)(3) sole member providing Asbury Atlantic with strategic guidance and clinical, compliance, communications, finance, human resources, IT, and marketing services.

Residents also play an integral role in planning, creating and organizing what happens on the Asbury Methodist Village campus. Whatever your background or interest level, you will find that life at our senior living community is full of exciting opportunities to get involved.

Resident Councils, Partnership Advisory Committees where residents work with campus leadership from key operational areas, and the Coordinating Council of Asbury Village, which holds regular meetings with leadership and residents, provide numerous ways to actively participate in shaping the campus and its services.

In addition, resident-run programs like the Keese School of Continuing Education and the Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative, Habitat Action Committee, Visual Arts Committee, Community Garden Club, Village Life newspaper, and so many others offer meaningful ways to share your talents for the greater good.
