Active Aging Week
From the desk of Todd Andrews, President Community Living
Active Aging Week kicks off across the nation on Monday, September 30, and across Asbury Communities, residents will be putting those words into action.
Before the celebrations begin, I wanted to take the opportunity to recognize the creativity, skill, and hard work of our Well-being Teams who do so much to build the culture and camaraderie that make our communities such special places to live and work.
Thanks to their efforts, Asbury earned three spots in the International Council on Active Aging’s Top 20 communities for senior wellness in 2023. I see award-winning well-being on display at every Asbury campus.
Urban poling, forest bathing, drums for fitness, art classes, pumpkin painting and chucking, build your own acai bowls, an associate versus resident pickle ball competition – there is nothing ordinary about Active Aging Week at Asbury.
I wish I could clear my calendar and join in! Not only do they sound like a lot of fun, but I know that thanks to these associates’ deep knowledge and commitment to you, these events are purposefully designed to enhance many dimensions of wellness and appeal to wide-ranging interests and abilities.
For the past two years, we have made significant investments in personnel and technology to reshape our communities as well-being destinations. Through EngAge Well, associates in every area of our operations are focused on finding ways for the residents we serve to move more, feel better, connect more, and experience more. Through Kinnections Brain Health, we are offering research-based strategies to optimize cognitive health. Our Well-being Teams are meeting regularly with our Senior Director of Well-Being to share the latest research and best practices, which is spreading new ideas and programs across the Asbury system.
As I visit our campuses, I hear from residents whose lives have been enriched by a class, program, or event. I hope you are one of these residents, and I hope that you will be taking part in Active Aging Week with us.
Thank you for choosing Asbury as your home. Thank you for celebrating this important week with us.
