Philanthropy Creates a Career Path for Women

For more than 35 years with Asbury, Sue DaCamara demonstrated a devotion to older adults and a passion for lifelong learning. Her efforts to provide associates with growth opportunities evolved beyond the Asbury family as Sue served as a coach and key contributor in the establishment of the LeadingAge DC, Maryland and Virginia Leadership Academy, a program designed to enhance skills of aging services leaders.
“It’s our duty to blaze a trail, offer a hand, create opportunities, and lift each other up along the way,” Sue said. In addition, Sue has supported the Asbury Foundation passionately over the years with a focus on associate scholarships — most notably — she helped build the Asbury Solomons Healthcare Scholarship Fund.
In appreciation of her tremendous service to Asbury residents and associates, the Asbury Senior Management Team knew that they wanted to do something extra special for Sue as she retired. Asbury leaders came together to recognize Sue’s accomplishments and dedication by making a gift to the Asbury Solomons Healthcare Scholarship Fund and establishing the first ever Asbury Foundation Women’s Leadership Fund.
“As more women are able to grow, I think we’ll see more women stepping into leadership within Asbury,” said Susan Mayernick, Vice President of Development at the Asbury Foundation. “There’s a lot of excellent women already in leadership and having this opportunity for growth will be great for us.”
The Women’s Leadership Fund will provide support for education and leadership training for women across Asbury who desire to grow in their senior living careers.
